My current body of work explores the power of memories, their shifting nature, and the emotions they evoke. This exploration is expressed through the sequential abstraction of the landscape. In this process I search to capture an "Emotional Geography", a changing representation of a space created by memories and the feelings attached to them, rather than any real geographical marker.
My process is one of many stages where one painting is recreated from the memory of a previous one. Through this approach of recreation, each successive edition moves farther away from the original, mirroring the retelling of a story, or the way memories change with time.
I primarily work with the medium of Encaustic to create multi-layered, complex surfaces of pigment and wax on wood. This medium allows for the creation of dream-like visages that conjure up the appearance of distant memories and shifting emotions.
